Lebron James Mocked by N.Y. Congressman Anthony Weiner
Basketball star Lebron James is getting flack from all directions for his decision to abandon his hometown team the Cleveland Cavaliers in favor of joining the Miami Heat -- including at least one lawmaker who was hoping to lure the player to his city.
Rep. Anthony Weiner, a Democrat who represents Queens and Brooklyn, released a statement last night ribbing the basketball player for overlooking the New York Knicks and the New Jersey Nets (who will be moving to Brooklyn in a few years).
"Ho hum. Cleveland? Miami? When Lebron decides he wants to play in a major league city, he can look us up," Weiner said. "New York City has a combined 51 championship titles. Lebron has 0. No biggie."
Weiner was one of several lawmakers hoping to see James land in his city.
The lawmaker, it turns out, is something of an athlete himself. Weiner made the Top 10 on ESPN's "Sportscenter" last month for an over-the-shoulder catch during the 49th Annual Congressional Baseball Game.
