Lawyer: Man to admit to murder in Maine supermarket stabbing
SACO, Maine -- A lawyer for a man accused of randomly stabbing a woman in a Maine supermarket says he plans to plead guilty to murder.
Thirty-one-year-old Connor MacCalister is charged with killing 59-year-old Wendy Boudreau at a Shaw's supermarket in Saco on Aug. 19.
MacCalister followed Wendy Boudreau from the parking lot of the Shaw's supermarket in Saco into the ice cream aisle, grabbed the 59-year-old woman from behind and slit her throat, the suspect told police, according to a court affidavit.
Boudreau died later at a hospital.
MacCalister was planning the random attack for a month and was "angry with life and wanted to get back at someone," the suspect allegedly told police. The 31-year-old, who was wearing camouflage and had a shaved head, was targeting a small elderly woman "whom she knew wouldn't resist," the document said.
MacCalister said he was "off my meds" at the time of the stabbing, according to the affidavit. The document says he told police he had gone to the store to kill "several random people."
MacCalister's attorney, Robert LeBrasseur, says that the guilty plea is not part of a negotiated deal and that his client is accepting responsibility for his actions. He says MacCalister will plead guilty Oct. 8.
MacCalister did not enter a plea at a previous court appearance. A judge ordered him to undergo a mental exam.
