Latest Outdoor Toys

It's summertime, which means it's prime outdoor playtime for younsgters. Freddi Greenberg, editor-in-chief of Nick Jr. Magazine visits The Early Show with some of the season's hottest toys - all guaranteed to pull your child away from video games.

This year's new crop of summer toys are designed to youngsters away from the TV, computer and video games and into the great outdoors.

The following are just a few:

Little Tikes Whirly Bounce Rider ($49.99)
This toy appeals to the younger set, age 2-5. The brightly colored plastic toy combines the action of a bouncy ball, a teeter-totter and a merry-go-round.

The Original Gak Splat By Jakks Pacific Inc. ($14.99)
In this version, the paddles are sticky. Kids throw a squishy ball that "gurgles when grabbed, sings when soared and splats when snagged.”

Sponge Bob Square Pants Jellyfish Soak 'N Splash by Little Kids ($7.99)
This game involves batting a small cloth jellyfish that's been soaked in water. When hit with a paddle, the jellyfish sprays water.

Catch-A-Bubble ($3.99)
These bubbles that don't burst are developed by Spin Master Toys. New technology makes the bubbles harden when they hit the air. Catch them and stack them up - supposedly they have the potential to last for days.

Magnet Dive Glove By Wild Planet ($14.99)
This toy makes the old practice of diving for pennies obsolete. Before diving into the swimming pool, kids strap on a glove that's outfitted with a magnet. They toss magnetic "fish" into the pool and race to see who can pick up the most from the pool's bottom.

This toy is great to further develop math, reading and other skills. Here's where education comes into play: the fish have different numbers printed on them. While one player may have gotten more fish, the other player may have captured fish with higher numbers. Players can add up these points at the end or as they go. The game's package also explains how magnets work and encourages kids to try picking up other items with their gloves.

Web Blaster ($16.99)
Based on the summer blockbuster "Spiderman," TOY BIZ has released this toy. Slip into a Spiderman glove and shoot water or webs (silly string) like the web slinger himself.

Grow-To-Pro-Pogo by Fisher-Price ($24.99)
Finally, toys can build a child's self-confidence by showing him that he can do something on his own. To illustrate this point, the pogo stick has an extra-large base that makes balancing a cinch for beginners as young as 5. As they improve, players can remove the base.
