Latest News and Photos from the L.A. Auto Show 2010
As an astute observer noted as the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show came to a conclusion, any self-respecting big car show will make sure there's enough eye candy on hand to draw the crowds - and then point them toward the fancy new hardware on display.
And this year, the eye candy was all green. In fact, floor-walkers were hard-pressed to find an automaker which either did not have something in the hybrid or battery-powered vehicle category - or soon would have one. Consider the following:
- Kia got tons of ink for its mini-EV Pop concept and Optima hybrid
- The Chevy Volt took away Green Car of the Year award. (It also won Motor Trend Car of the Year award and was named Automobile of the Year by Automobile magazine.)
- Lotus brought out a hybrid
- Jaguar debuted a plug-in
- Mercedes debuts a fuel cell electric vehicle
- Fiat showed off a high-mileage 500 minicar
- Honda talked up its electric vehicle and plug-in and fuel cell strategy
- Dodge emphasized the improved fuel economy of its linuep
- Toyota and Tesla underscored their new partnership
- Even Buick - Buick! - had something quasi-hybrid in its new LaCrosse
- Hyundai updated its gas-powered Elantra
- Audi promised more high-mileage diesels
And that was just for starters. There clearly was a lot to take in at this annual auto conclave and our sister site CNET was there with a team of reporters to report on the show. You can find their full report here.
