LAPD Sorry for Exhibiting RFK's Death Garb

The Los Angeles Police Department has apologized to the family of Robert F. Kennedy for exhibiting the shirt, tie and jacket the senator wore when he was assassinated in 1968.

They were included in an evidence exhibit Tuesday at a homicide investigators conference held at a casino resort in Las Vegas.

Kennedy was gunned down by Sirhan Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1968.

Police Chief Charlie Beck told the Los Angeles Times that the items were removed immediately after a Kennedy family member contacted him. Beck says the LAPD doesn't want to traumatize the family of a crime victim.

Still on display are items from other famous LAPD cases, including the Manson family murders and the death of Marilyn Monroe.
