Predicting that the title would cause controversy, the pop singer called the song a tribute to Princess Diana, according to a report in Sky News.

"Since I was a very young girl, the People's Princess was the most important person in me and my mother's life," she said. "I swore if I ever had an audience like this in London I would take a moment to appreciate her."

Gaga first introduced the somber piano ballad during a concert in June in Melbourne, Australia.

In addition to the tribute to Lady Diana, the pop singer gave shout-outsduring the concert to Amy Winehouse, and John Lennon.
