(CBS) Lady Antebellum's third album, the hotly anticipated "Own the Night," is out. It's critic-proof, but here's what the critics are saying.

"This is the smartest ear-candy song cycle since [Taylor] Swift lamented her cracked heart at 15," writes Chrissie Dickinson in the Chicago Tribune.

The LA Times, generally (and thankfully) critical of mainstream pop music, writes, "[T]he all-stops-out production gradually loses impact." The paper gives "Own the Night" two-and-a-half stars out of four.

The New York Daily News gives the album two stars out of five and writes, "They're decorative but unfeeling, sleek but lacking any ability to communicate what they're supposed to be singing about. They might as well be Swedes delivering their songs phonetically."

Lady Antebellum makes its "Saturday Night Live" debut on Oct. 1. "Own the Night" is out now.
