Spices, seasonings recalled over Salmonella concerns
Kroger is recalling four spices and seasonings after Salmonella was found in one product on the shelves.
Testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found Salmonella contamination in Kroger Garlic Powder in a store in North August, South Carolina. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
Kroger said in a statement, "Out of an abundance of caution, the company has recalled all four seasonings produced on the same equipment in the same facility."
The four seasonings and spices on the recall list include:
- Kroger Ground Cinnamon, 18.3 oz size. SKU 1111070034, Sell by: May 19, 2018
- Kroger Garlic Powder, 24.7 oz size. SKU 1111070039, Sell by: May 18 2017
- Kroger Coarse Ground Black Pepper, 17.1 oz size. SKU 1111070041 Sell by: May 18, 2018 Sell by: May 19, 2018
- Kroger Bac'n Buds, 12.0 oz size. SKU 1111070025, Sell by: May 20 2018
Anyone who has purchased one of the seasonings on the list can return the product for a full refund.
The products involved in the recall were sold in Kroger-owned stores in 31 states, which go by a number of names: Kroger, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry's, King Soopers, City Market, Smith's, Dillons, Baker's, Gerbes, Jay C, Ruler Foods, Pay Less, Owen's, and Scott's.
This is just the latest in a series of recalls involving contamination in food products this year. The FDA has also issued recalls over listeria in ice cream and hummus, Salmonella in frozen stuffed chicken, and peanut-allergen contamination in cumin spices, among others.
