Kevin Spacey's surprise serenade for the political elite
DAVOS, Switzerland -- It is well known that after a long day at the World Economic Forum many world leaders, guests and journalists tend to unwind with a glass of wine and some hors d'oeuvres at a late night reception. One popular spot for such revelry is the Piano Bar in the Hotel Europe.
What makes the Piano Bar stand out from the other party locations is its piano, where guests are known to sing over a few drinks.
Wednesday night, Kevin Spacey, the actor famous for his role as "Frank Underwood" in the Netflix series "House of Cards" made a guest appearance at the annual SkyBridge Capitol reception hosted at the bar.
After greeting fans and posing in their selfies, Spacey greeted Congressmen Kevin McCarthy, Darrell Issa, and Mac Thornberry. It was somewhat of a reunion for Spacey and McCarthy, since the actor shadowed the congressman while conducting research for his role as the "whip" in "House of Cards."
Spacey later stood behind the piano and cracked a few jokes. He said that he often gets asked, if the character he played in "House of Cards," Frank Underwood, had to debate Trump, who would win?
"I thought about this and I said, 'We must remember one important distinction, one of these characters is a fictional character, and the other is a fictional character.'" Spacey's joke received applause and laughs, and one man chanted "four more years."
Spacey commented on the spirit of Davos and the World Economic Forum stating, "Ideas are extraordinary and that when we come together and decide to try to solve problems or progress ourselves or just be better be kinder to each other its pretty remarkable."
As an added bonus, Spacey serenaded the audience with Frank Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours."
