Kesha's legal battle with Dr. Luke put on hold
Kesha will have to wait even longer to have her day in court with Dr. Luke.
The "True Colors" singer's sexual assault case in California has been put on hold until her breach of contract lawsuit in New York has been resolved, Buzzfeed News reports. Kesha accused the producer of drugging and raping her, accusations Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwalkd) has denied as "outright lies."
Kesha was not present for the status hearing on Monday, where Los Angeles County Superior Judge Barbara Scheper deferred the case until July 15, when another status hearing is scheduled to occur.
During the hearing, Dr. Luke's legal team argued that "Kesha had suffered significant legal setbacks in New York," according to Buzzfeed News.
New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich previously denied Kesha an injunction on her exclusive recording contract with Sony and dismissed counterclaims of gender-related hate crimes and intentional infliction of emotional distress, declaring "every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime."
Kesha's attorneys are set to file amended court docs in New York by May 20. A dispute is currently underway over whether records of Kesha's medical treatment since 2005 -- including, as ET learned in court docs, "treatment by psychiatrists, psychologists [and] the rehabilitation clinic" -- are relevant to the case and which she should have to disclose.
On Sunday, the 29-year-old pop star opened up about battling depression and an eating disorder and the "strange place" her career is in, declaring that she has decided "to take my life back."
"My freedom. my happiness. my voice. my worth. I will not just f**king be quiet and hide," Kesha wrote on Instagram. "today I will say f**k it and live. So F*********K it. today I'm making that choice. AND IM HAPPY AS A DAMN CLAM."
