Kellan Lutz to star in "Hercules 3-D"
Kellan Lutz is going from "Twilight" hunk to Hercules.
The 28-year-old actor has been tapped to portray the hero character in "Hercules 3-D," the upcoming $70 million film from director Renny Harlin.
"It takes more than a good physique to portray the most legendary, mythological personality in history -- and Kellan has exactly that, personality," Harlin told The Hollywood Reporter. "He's not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart."
"This is a breakout role for Kellan and a chance to grow and shine as an actor," said Harlin, who was also behind "Cliffhanger" and "Die Hard 2."
But Harlin's film isn't the only Hercules project in the works. Director Brett Ratner is headed up a separate movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the title role. Production began last fall in New Zealand.
Aside from the "Twilight Saga" series, Kellan has also appeared in "Immortals" and "A Warrior's Heart." He's also starring in the upcoming "Tarzan" film, playing the lead character, as well as the comedy "Syrup," with Amber Heard.
