Katy Perry describes grueling makeup for "E.T." video

(CBS) - Katy Perry goes from teenage dreamer to cosmic siren in her new song "E.T." with Kanye West. The video is pretty far out, and so was the makeup she wore for it, which as Katy tells it, sounded grueling to have applied.

"It was, like, five and six hours, each makeup look," Perry told MTV. The pop star wears three different styles in the video - from cosmic space being to angelic songstress to warrior princess.

"It was hard for me! It was really a patience thing for me on this video," she tells MTV News correspondent Sway. "It's like when you're doing a film. Sometimes you have to do prosthetics, and you have to get really old or turn into an animal or a monster - and that's kind of what this process was."

It doesn't help that all those hours of makeup can be wiped away so quickly. When asked how long it takes to remove her intense look, Perry replied, "like, ten minutes."
