Katie Couric's Notebook: Shoe fetish
But according to a new study from Consumer Reports, most women have succumbed to temptation many, many times. In fact, the average U.S. woman has 17 pairs of shoes. Move over Imelda, we're catching up!
Nearly a third of those polled have spent more than a hundred dollars on a single pair... and 60 percent say they'll tolerate some pain in the name of fashion.
Now I'm no stranger to the allure of great shoes - but before you fall for your next strappy sandal or pretty pump, check out Toms shoes . For every pair you purchase, the company donates one to a child in need. And they're stylish to boot.
Nineteen percent of us go shoe shopping to cheer ourselves up, but a TOMS high lasts longer. After all, you can't walk a mile in stilettos... but you can walk a mile in somebody else's shoes by making sure they have some.
That's a page from my notebook.
I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.
