Kate, Duchess of Cambridge: What she wore for NYC trip
Think packing for vacation is difficult? Imagine doing it if you're royalty, one of the best-dressed women in the world and five months pregnant, too.
Such is life for Duchess Kate, and we're sure we're not the only ones excited to see what she brought for her whirlwind, three-day trip to New York City with Prince William. This is their first time in the Big Apple, and their royal itinerary includes everything from a gala dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to a Brooklyn Nets-Cleveland Cavaliers game. So expect glitzy gowns and courtside chic (probably with lots of outfits in between), and with Kate, 32, expecting the couple's second child, this visit is likely to be a master class in maternity fashion.
Here, we'll keep a running tally of what the former Kate Middleton -- now officially known as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge -- wears during the Dec. 7-9 trip.
Sunday, Dec. 7
Welcome to New York! When William and Kate arrived at the Carlyle Hotel, where they're staying during their trip, the duchess was wearing a plum "Marina" coat from the maternity label Seraphine, paired with a clutch, tights and ankle boots all in black.
Later Sunday, she swapped the coat for a black "Amara" cocktail dress with lace sleeves by Beulah London, paired with a different clutch and black pumps, while attending a private dinner benefiting the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Monday, Dec. 8
The Duchess of Cambridge began her day visiting the Northside Center for Childhood Development in Harlem, accompanied by New York City first lady Chirlane McCray. For the visit, which included crafting and wrapping presents with students and volunteers, Kate wore a black crepe "Washington" coat by Goat with enamel buttons and nude accents at the sleeves, neck and back, paired with black tights and heels.
Here's another photo of the same coat from the front, taken at a lunch at the British Consul General's residence later that day:
Later that evening, Kate changed into a gray "Bettina" coat by American designer Tory Burch paired with skinny jeans and heels as she and William attended a reception at the British Consul General's residence and then an NBA basketball game in Brooklyn, where the British royals got to meet some American royalty (that would be Beyonce, Jay Z and LeBron James).
Tuesday, Dec. 9
William and Kate began the final day of their New York City trip with a visit to the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum. Despite the gloomy weather (the pair used umbrellas from their NYC home base, the Carlyle Hotel, to shield themselves from the rain), the Duchess of Cambridge looked bright in a fushcia, double-breasted coat by Mulberry.
At a reception celebrating British involvement in creative industries, where she chatted with attendees including Patrick Stewart, Harvey Weinstein and J. Crew's Jenna Lyons, Kate lost the coat and revealed a black, long-sleeved Seraphine "Vanessa" maternity dress paired with a gold necklace.
For the final event of their three-day trip, at a black-tie fundraiser held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for William and Kate's alma mater, St. Andrews University, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a midnight blue crepe crepe, pleated, off-the-shoulder gown by Jenny Packham. If it looks familiar, you're not imagining things -- Kate's worn the gown on two other previous occasions. This time, she styled it with diamond-and-emerald drop earrings and her hair pinned up in a chignon.
