Karl Rove Continues "Shellacking" of President Obama
In an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric, former George W. Bush senior advisor and now Fox News analyst and GOP rainmaker Karl Rove continued the "shellacking" of President Obama.
Rove told Couric that President Obama "had a unique moment. The country was ready to turn. And he blew it. He blew it by not doing in office what he said he would do on the campaign trail. "
In a tweet today Rove further shellacked the president, implying that he rose to office without any hard-earned accomplishments.
"[Obama] managed to rise quickly and spectacularly without getting his hands dirty by accomplishing something."
Since the financial meltdown, the Obama administration has laid blame for much of the mess at the feet of the Bush administration. Exit polling for the 2010 midterm election showed that former president Bush is still blamed for the ongoing economic crisis by voters. In the exit polls 35 percent of voters put the blame on Wall Street, followed by Mr. Bush at 29 percent and Mr. Obama at 24 percent.
During a press conference on Wednesday, a humbled Mr. Obama said he didn't believe his policy agenda was at fault for the midterm "shellacking," but acknowledged that some voters viewed his actions in responding to what he called an "emergency situation" as "overreaching."
"If, right now, we had five percent unemployment instead of 9.6 percent unemployment, then people would have had more confidence in those policy choices," Mr. Obama said.
In the interview with Couric, Rove offered his take on why the unemployment rate is nearly 10 percent. "Well, there's a reason why it's not five percent. It's because we have bad policies in place."
The exit polls also showed that voters disliked both parties equally.
"Let's not kid ourselves, the Republicans are on probation," Rove told Couric. "That's why they've got to do in office what they said they would do on the campaign trail when it comes to these big issues."
