Karch Makes Volleyball History


Karch Kiraly came to Chicago tied for the most wins in professional beach volleyball history. He left Sunday alone at the top.

With the win in the Association of Volleyball Professionals-Paul Mitchell US Open, the 38-year-old Kiraly has 140 career victories one more than Sinjin Smith.

The top-seeded team of Kiraly and Adam Johnson advanced through the loser's bracket to the finals where they defeated the fifth-seeded Brazilian team of Roberto Lopes and Franco Neto, 15-7.

On the women's side, the top-seeded team of Liz Masakayan and Elaine Youngs defeated the third-seeded team of Annett Buckner-Davis and Jenny Johnson-Jordan 15-9.

Each winning team took home $18,000 in prize money.
