Kara Kennedy, daughter of Teddy, dies
BOSTON - Kara Kennedy Allen, the only daughter of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, has died.
A family friend confirmed to CBS Station WBZ that the 51-year-old Kennedy passed away, after reportedly suffering a heart attack Friday evening.
Kennedy Allen, a Tufts University graduate, battled lung cancer in the past, but her cancer had been in remission since 2003.
In 2009, she accepted the Medal of Freedom on behalf of her father, who was home battling cancer.
She was on the board of national trustees at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library.
Kara had two brothers: Ted Kennedy Jr., and former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy.
