Kanye West, David Bowie among notable GRAMMYs snubs
While Kanye West wasn’t exactly shut out from Tuesday’s GRAMMY Awards nominations, he’s likely feeling snubbed anyway, since his latest work, “The Life of Pablo,” didn’t garner any recognition in the major categories.
But he wasn’t the only high-profile snub this year.
West could actually go home with as many as eight GRAMMYs during next February’s ceremony. As a producer, he is up for Album of the Year thanks to his work on Drake’s “Views,” and he shares nominations with Drake and Schoolboy Q in the Best Rap Performance category.
West’s tracks “Ultralight Beam” and “Famous” were each nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Performance. And his album, “The Life of Pablo,” one of the most talked about releases of 2016, earned a Best Rap Album nomination.
David Bowie’s final album, “Blackstar,” was released just days before his death in January, and many were expecting a posthumous Album of the Year nomination, but fans will have to make due with a Best Alternative Music Album, as the record and its tracks didn’t earn nods in any of the major categories.
Aside from the Alternative Music mention, Bowie was also nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for the album’s title track.
But both Bowie and West fared better, at least, than Justin Timberlake, whose summer-dominating no. 1 hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling” only managed to snag one nomination, in Best Song Written For Visual Media.
