Kanye throws down mic, walks off during performance in Canada
Kanye West brought down the house on Sunday night, in front of athletes and spectators dancing at the 2015 Pan Games Closing Ceremony -- for 13 minutes that is. Just as quickly as he had them dancing in their seats, he left them wondering in silence.
After giving it his all with hits like "Gold Digger" and "Touch the Sky," and promising the crowd a good show, saying, "Oh yeah, we're gonna have a good time tonight," before going into "All of the Lights" and "Good Life." But then the jumping stopped, as West's mic apparently cut out.
Not one to take things lying down, the rapper abruptly threw his mic in the air and stormed off stage without so much as a peace out, or so-long. Officials later blamed the disruption on technical difficulties.
Luckily the audience had been entertained before West took the stage to close out the two-hour closing ceremony. There was the march of athletes from 41 nations, multi-cultural dance routines, the extinguishing of the Pan Am flame, the handover of the Pan American Sports Organization flag to 2019 host city Lima, and a performances by Pitbull (who riled up the crowd just before West) and others.
In typical West fashion, his appearance at the Canadian ceremony not only ended in controversy, but it started there too. Many Canadians opposed the American rapper's attendance because he is not Canadian. One online petition to stop his performance reportedly garnered 50,000 signatures.
But isn't that what we've come to know and love about West, his ability to leave us wondering what just happened?
