Kagan in the Hot Seat
With Solicitor General Elena Kagan in her seat at the witness table, Senators on both sides of the aisle are giving their opening statements and previewing the issues they intend to hit during this week's confirmation hearings. She is sitting impassively, her hands folded in her lap, but she almost looked stricken when Sen. Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the committee, started hammering her for limiting military recruiting at Harvard Law School because of the Pentagon's Don't Ask/Don't Tell policy. Look for that to be a big issue this week.
