  • "Rose is improving every night out," Indiana coach Larry Bird said. "He's getting confidence he can take anybody off the dribble and get a shot. When he does that, nobody can stop him."

Indiana's reserves outscored the Bucks 54-20 with Derrick McKey contributing a season-high 15 points. McKey, who was on the injured list until April 12, played a season-high 28 minutes and helped limit the effectiveness of Glenn Robinson down the stretch.

"He played fantastic at both ends of the floor. He's getting more confidence in his game and his knee," Miller said of McKey.

"Derrick is a great defender," Milwaukee coach George Karl said.

Miller had five points in the extra period when the Pacers pulled away as the Bucks went scoreless for over three minutes.

Robinson led the Bucks with 27 points, including 15 in the first quarter. But he had only four in the fourth quarter and overtime.

"In the first quarter, I let the game come to me and didn't try to force anything," Robinson said. "In the second half, they made it tougher on me. Their defesne really clamped down on me, and forced me to take some tougher shots."

Tim Thomas had 21 for the Bucks.

Allen, who had 14 points but shot only 4-of-19, tied the game for the last time at 96-96 with 3:51 remaining in overtime. Dale Davis then made one of two free throws to put Indiana ahead to stay. Miller also made a free throw with 3:06 left but missed the second, ending a strea of 33 successful attempts.

Consecutive baskets by McKey gave Indiana a 102-96 lead. Haywoode Workman, who scored 12 points and had 11 assists in his first game against his former team, scored with 44.6 seconds left but failed to convert the three-point opportunity.

"Having played here for five years made tonight's game pretty emotional," Workman said. "I tried to treat this like any other road game, but I had a tough time settling down early."

After Miller delivered on a long jumper with 29.3 seconds to go, Thomas brought the Bucks to 104-100 before Rose hit four free throws.

Rik Smits forced the overtime when he rebounded Travis Best's miss and scored on a follow to tie it 92-92 with 3.3 seconds left. Allen's shot bounced off the rim as time expired.

There were eight ties and seven lead changes in the first three quarters, which ended with the Bucks leading 80-76.

Rose and McKey sparked the Pacers to their biggest lead of the game in the second quarter. Rose had six points and McKey five as Indiana scored 12 consecutive points to lead 54-41 with 3:23 remaining in the half. Indiana led 56-50 at halftime.
