Judge throws out suit by Zimmerman's parents against Roseanne Barr
SANFORD, Fla. -- A judge has thrown out a lawsuit filed by George Zimmerman's parents against Roseanne Barr after the comedian and actress put their address on her Twitter feed.
Circuit Judge Melanie Chase on Tuesday granted a summary judgment in favor of Barr. Her attorney argued that Barr was exercising her First Amendment rights and that the address was already public information.
David Heil, the lawyer for Robert and Gladys Zimmerman, contended they did not feel safe in their home after Barr tweeted their address three years ago.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Barr's attorney also said the Zimmermans had become public figures after their son fatally shot black teenager Trayvon Martin in a case that sparked a national debate about race.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of murder in Martin's shooting.
