Josh Groban on why he does "sad" so well

(CBS News) Josh Groban is on one of the world's most popular singers. The actor, songwriter and music producer is also a classically trained musician who has one of the most recognized voices in the industry.

The renaissance man of the entertainment business has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. His sixth record, and most recent, "All that Echoes," debuted at number one on the Billboard album chart.

Groban is known for singing about breakups although he told "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-hosts Nancy Cordes and Anthony Mason that not all of his music is about bad relationships and that he tries to write about getting stronger in his songs.

The singer said both he and his voice do tend to do better with more solemn topics. Yet while he does "do sad well," his music is not supposed to come off completely somber.

"I think, for me, I like to find songs that represent the gray area, the in-between. I really, I think love is never kind of one sure thing," said Groban. "There are always questions, always light and dark to it. I like the songs that are more rooted in real life and those can be real helpful and romantic too."
