Jon Huntsman says campaign has "terrific presence" in early primary states
Republican presidential contender Jon Huntsman, the former U.S. ambassador to China and Utah governor who is considered a moderate in the field, said today that his campaign has a "terrific presence" in early presidential nominating states, and he isn't concerned about trailing in the polls.
"If the election were next month, I guess it would be cause for concern," Huntsman said on CBS' "The Early Show." "The fact of the matter is, we've got a long way to go. We've been in this race for one month."
Huntsman added that his campaign is focused on "the early building blocks" in states like New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida.
"We've announced, we've organized, we've got a terrific presence in the early states," he said. "Nobody's going to pay attention to this race until you're into September, October, and by then we will have the organization on the ground and we will have a message honed."
In the latest Gallup poll, Huntsman trails behind nearly every Republican presidential contender, earning the support of just 2 percent of Republicans.
