John Mellencamp and Wife Split After 18 Years
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) John Mellencamp and his wife are calling it quits.
A spokesman for the 59-year-old rocker says he and his wife, model Elaine Mellencamp (nee Irwin), are splitting up after 18 years of marriage.
They "are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family," Bob Merlis told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement on Thursday. "They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple."
Merlis declined to say if the couple had filed for divorce.
Elaine Mellencamp is the rocker's third wife. The pair met in 1991, when she was a 23-year-old supermodel hired by photographer Wayne Maser to pose for the cover of Mellencamp's "Whenever We Wanted" album. They were engaged 10 weeks later and married the following September in Mellencamp's uncle's log cabin in Indiana, according to People magazine.
Mellencamp also has three other children from two previous marriages. His latest album, "No Better Than This," was released earlier this year.
