John Lennon's childhood home sells at auction
John Lennon's childhood home in Liverpool, England, sold at auction on Tuesday for 480,000 pounds ($770,250). According to Sky News, the property, which had been priced to sell at 150,000 pounds, was bought by an unnamed American who's a big Beatles fan.
The late Beatle lived in the three-bedroom red brick home with his parents and grandparents from his birth in 1940 until the age of five. The house, located at 9 Newcastle Road in Wavertree, Liverpool, is just a few minutes away from the Penny Lane area, also the title of one of the Beatles' classic songs.
The listing states: "Many of the landmarks mentioned in the song are just a few minute's walk from his childhood home. Visitors still flock to visit these sites and other local landmarks world-famous for their John Lennon and Beatles connections."
Stephen Giddins from Entwistle Green real estate agency told Sky News the owners of the home weren't sure how much it would sell for, but noted there was a lot of interest leading up to the sale. "It's very difficult to put a price on a house like this because you don't know what someone who is a huge Beatles fan will be prepared to pay to live in John Lennon's former home," he said.
The house consists of a lounge, family room, kitchen with three bedrooms, a family bathroom and a backyard. Go here to see the interior and exterior of the home.
