John Katehis, teen who stabbed radio reporter 50 times, gets 25-to-life
(CBS) NEW YORK - The teenager who stabbed a radio news man to death after a Craigslist hook-up was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison yesterday.
CBS New York reports that John Katehis was 16 when, according to the prosecution, he placed an ad on Craigslist offering sex for money. Freelance ABC News Radio reporter George Weber answered the ad in March 2009 and was later found dead in his Brooklyn apartment. He was stabbed more than 50 times and bound with duct tape.
Katehis's first trial ended in a mistrial but he was found guilty at a second trial.
At Tuesday's sentencing, Katehis said, "for the death of George Weber, I am sorry."
However, Weber's family said they forgive Katehis.
"I forgive you. I have no hatred," said Weber's brother-in-law Jason Hannas.
