John Edwards trial: Jury to begin day two of deliberations
(CBS News) The jury in the John Edwards case begins day two of deliberations Monday morning.
They took the weekend off after getting the case Friday.
Will "Willfully" save John Edwards?
The jury is charged with trying to figure out whether the nearly $1 million that came from two wealthy backers were gifts as Edwards claims - or campaign contributions as the prosecution contends.
The former Democratic presidential candidate has pleaded not guilty to six criminal counts related to campaign finance violations. He's accused of conspiring to receive nearly $1 million from the wealthy donors to conceal his affair with Reille Hunter, his then-pregnant mistress.
Friday, the jury asked to see evidence relating to the first two of the six felony counts that they have to consider. That is evidence relating to the first of those donors Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, the reclusive heiress. They asked to see checks from her and notes from her.
Was that to answer a few last questions for the jury? Or will they move on next to the exhibits related to the second donor, one of his other backers, Fred Barron? If they do that, it may take them some time to come to a verdict.
