Jobless claims remain at a 42-year low
The number of Americans filing for jobless claims held at 246,000 last week, marking an 84th consecutive week below 300,000 and the longest such streak since 1970, the Department of Labor (DOL) said Thursday.
For the week ending Oct. 8, seasonally adjusted initial claims held unchanged from the prior week’s level, which was revised down by 3,000 to 246,000. The less volatile four-week moving average was 249,250, a drop of 3,500 from the previous week, and the lowest level for the average since Nov. 3, 1973, when it was 244,000, according to the DOL.
