Jessica Lynch Not A June Bride

Former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch has postponed her June wedding to Army Sgt. Ruben Contreras, her lawyer confirmed Thursday.

"They are certainly still engaged," Stephen Goodwin said. "They just decided that June wasn't the appropriate time. They will deal with it as they move forward."

Lynch has been unable to focus on planning a wedding because of her busy schedule and continued therapy for injuries she received last year when her Army convoy was attacked in Iraq, Goodwin said.

The 20-year-old Palestine resident suffered broken bones and other injuries when the 507th Maintenance Company was attacked in southern Iraq on March 23. She was taken prisoner and rescued from a hospital on April 1.

Lynch and Contreras began dating about two years ago at Fort Bliss, Texas.

"They still talk all the time. She's still wearing an engagement ring. They are an engaged couple who hasn't set a date yet," Goodwin said.
