Jennifer Lopez joins Chilean miner drama "The 33"
Jennifer Lopez has signed on for the Chilean miner drama "The 33."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lopez will join Antonio Banderas in the film, which is based on the true story of 33 Chilean miners who were rescued in 2010 after being trapped for 69 days.
The film will mark Lopez's first on-screen role since starring alongside Jason Stathem in the thriller "Parker," which was released earlier this year.
THR reports that Banderas will play the role of Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner nicknamed "Super Mario." Martin Sheen will play his father, while Brazilian actor Roderigo Santoro will play one of the trapped miners.
"The 33" is being directed by Patricia Riggen ("La Misma Luna"), from a screenplay written by Mikko Alanne and Jose Rivera. Production will reportedly begin in Chile this fall.
