Jason Ellis Update: Amy Ellis, widow of ambushed Ky. police officer, says her husband will always be her hero
(CBS/AP) BARDSTOWN, Ky. - The widow of an ambushed Bardstown Police officer says her late husband "will always be my hero."
In her first public statements Tuesday morning, Amy Ellis said "the pain will never go away" after her husband, 33-year-old Jason Ellis, was ambushed and killed Saturday on his way home from work.
Kentucky State Police say Ellis was shot multiple times after he got out of his cruiser to pick up debris on Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County. Police investigators there are asking for the public's help in finding suspects.
Bardstown Police Chief Rick McCubbin said there have been lots of tips and a few leads, but nothing to get investigators excited yet.
According to CBS affiliate WLKY, more than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil on Monday night. Mourners also covered a police car with flowers, flags, balloons and baseballs in front of the police station.
Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
