(CBS) R&B singer Jason Derulo nearly avoided paralysis when he landed directly on his head, fracturing his neck, while practicing an acrobatic move in Florida for his upcoming world tour, reports say.

The singer was immediately taken to Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla., where doctors said he suffered an acute fracture to his vertebra, which could have left him paralyzed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As a result, Derulo canceled all of his upcoming tour dates and appearances, reports THR.

"To all my fans who planned to come to the Future History World tour, the pain of letting you down cuts me way deeper than this injury I sustained," Derulo said in a press release. "My fans mean everything to me, so I'm praying for a speedy recovery in order to perform for you in the near future."

The "Whatcha Say" singer's tour was scheduled to kick off in Glasgow on Feb. 23, continuing on to London's Wembley Arena March 1.
