Janet Hubert slams Jada Pinkett Smith for Oscars boycott
Wow, Aunt Viv sure doesn't mince words.
Actress Janet Hubert, known for playing Vivian Banks on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" before she was dismissed and replaced, posted a scathing video on Facebook in response to Jada Pinkett Smith's announcement that she is boycotting the Oscars.
Hubert, who had a rocky relationship with Jada's husband Will Smith when she was on "Fresh Prince," slammed the couple in a post she simply captioned "The Smiths."
"First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?" said Hubert to Jada. "And the second thing is, there's a lot of s**t going on in the world that you don't seem to recognize. People are dying, being shot left and right, people are hungry, people are struggling to pay bills -- and you're talking about actors and Oscars. It just ain't that deep."
She chastised the Smiths, saying that they were putting other actors in an awkward position.
"For you to ask other actors and actresses to jeopardize their career and standing in this town, you know damn well you don't do that," she said. "Here's the other thing -- they don't care. They don't care!"
Hubert also implied that the Smiths were simply boycotting the Oscars due to sour grapes, since Will was not nominated for Best Actor for his role in "Concussion."
"I find it ironic that somebody who has made their living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that you're talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination, just because you didn't win?" she said. "That's not the way life works, baby."
Hubert has spoken out many times about her distaste for Will. Even as recently as 2013, she told the Insider that Smith did "some heinous, horrible things to me -- they were like bad kids, Will and Alfonso [Ribiero], especially Alfonso. He said that I was crazy and nobody wanted to go to lunch with me."
