Is LeBron James Trying to Become a Doctor?

The Plain Dealer is reporting that LeBron James has filed paperwork with the NBA to change his uniform number.

James tells the Cleveland newspaper that he will switch from No. 23 to No. 6, the number he wore with the U.S. Olympic team.

James said in November he was considering the change out of respect to Michael Jordan, who wore No. 23. Paperwork had to be filed this week to request a number change for next season.

Hall of Famers Julius Erving (Dr. J) and Bill Russell are the NBA's most notable players to wear No. 6.

"I've done it," James told the newspaper. "I already sent it in. I'm going to be No. 6."

The change will likely spark a surge in James jersey sales. According to the newspaper, James' jersey has ranked in the top three in sales in the U.S., China and Europe.

Kobe Bryant changed his uniform from No. 8 to No. 24 and Michael Jordan briefly wore No. 45 before returning to his trademark No. 23.
