Iraq And The NIE: Grim And Grimmer

To be fair, none of the backgrounders or press conferences I attended today tried to make it a good news story. If anything, the backgrounders were grimmer than the report itself. The only real spin I heard was to use the NIE as the best argument for sending in 21,000 more soldiers and Marines, although it would be just as easy to conclude that no amount of American troops can save that traumatized country from itself.
Either way, after reading the Key Judgments, you can see why the President decided the old strategy wasn't working.
