Instagram launches online profiles
Instagram announced Monday the launch of online profiles for its users.
Instagram is a popular mobile photo-sharing app that is available on Apple iOS and Google Android phones.
The new profile pages look similar to Facebook's Timeline, but with a collage of rotating pictures instead of one cover photo. To see an Instagram user's profile, add the user name to the end of Instagram.com.
Not all users' profiles have been activated yet. To see an example of how Instagram profiles will look, the company suggests visiting Instagram.com/Nike.
It's not clear if users can opt-out of profiles. Those who don't want to share their photos on the Web can set their profiles to private.
Instagram launched for the iPhone in 2010. The app lets users upload or take photos and apply filters to get a similar look and feel of lo-fi photography. After photos are processed, users can immediate broadcast pictures to other Instagram users, Twitter or Facebook.
Instagram reported 80 million users in July. The mobile-sharing app was bought by Facebook for $715 million.
