Instagram helped tie suspects to jewelry heist: report
DENVER - The FBI used Instagram to help tie three men and a woman to an elaborate jewelry heist, reports CBS Denver.
The heist took place at a Denver jeweler in February. Police say a woman who acted like she was a customer went into the store after being buzzed in by employees. In the process, she allowed three men inside with her, according to the station.
The group then robbed the store, taking an undisclosed amount of jewelry after smashing display cases, CBS Denver reported.
The suspects then fled in a red or maroon SUV; the vehicle was later found ditched a few blocks away, according to the station.
The next day the suspects were arrested -- after a high-speed chase and crash near San Francisco, more than a-thousand miles away.
Police took five people into custody: Anthony Dewayne Domino, Sharde Shenay Suwannabart-Smith, Sean Donyell McCullough II, Summer Pavielle Sawyer, and Anthony James Tyree.
CBS Denver rpeorts that according to court papers, the FBI received a tip that they should look to Instagram in connection with the case. The thieves had allegedly posted incriminating pictures of themselves in Denver bragging about their crimes.
