Indian boy born with two heads
Doctors are trying to save the life of an infant boy born with two heads.
The boy was born in the Tonk district of Rajasthan, India on Wednesday with a condition known as conjoined dicephalic parapagus twins, according to Reuters Video. Most of the time, these children are born dead and are girls.
The Indian boy specifically has two separate heads, nervous systems and back bones that join at the pelvis. He only has one rib cage and shoulder girdle. More tests need to be done to see what other organs are shared or joined.
Another famous case of conjoined dicephalic parapagus twins include Abigail and Brittany Hensel, American girls whose story was featured on the TLC reality TV series "Abby & Brittany." The girls don't share most of their organs, but they only have one broad ribcage with two fused sternums, two breasts, one liver, one large intestine and colon, three kidneys, one bladder, one set of reproductive organs, one pelvis and two legs.
Earlier in September 2011, two 11-month-old girls from Sudan joined at the top of their heads were successfully separated. The girls were craniopagus twins, which occurs in about one in 2.5 million births.
The baby boy was brought to J.K. Lone Hospital in Jaipur City. His doctors added that while his condition is serious, it is possible that he could survive.
Surgeons successfully removed the second head of a Dominican baby in February 2004. The second head belonged to a partially-formed twin and only contained a partial brain, eyes, ears and lips. However, the girl later passed away due to complications from the surgery.
