In It's Own Category: Brother's GeoBook

A notebook sized digital assistant. Brother calls it the GeoBook. It has the functions of the most popular personal digital assistants but is the size of full-fledged notebook computer. Brother Senior VP Dean Schulman...says it is designed for people who want the functions of a PC...minus the hassles and
price...

"All applications are actually built onto a chip. So, therefore, we don't need a hard drive. We don't have any of the conflicts or concerns you might have with a traditional PC. We've made this product almost bullet-proof. It connects to virtually every kind of printer. It allows you to do email. It allows you to surf the web. It allows you to do desktop publishing, spreadsheets, calendar, address book, faxing, everything, yet have a full size keyboard and full size color VGA display."

There are drawbacks. No sound and the browser is not compatible with some of the latest plug-ins. You can store on flash memory PC cards or on floppy disks which you can then take to a regular PC. BrotherWorks software is included. Prices start at about 600 dollars for the grayscale version....

"This is targeted for people who have to spend their own money. If you're spending corporate money...you can buy whatever you want and maybe you should buy a three thousand dollar notebook."
