Human remains found not those of missing Texas girl Hailey Dunn
(CBS/AP/KOSA) BIG SPRING, Texas - West Texas authorities say a medical examiner has determined that remains speculated to be those of 13-year-old missing girl Hailey Dunn, are male.
Big Spring Police Sgt. Tony Everett said on Friday that more information will be released as the autopsy continues. The FBI started collecting and analyzing evidence after some workers found the remains in a pasture Tuesday.
The determination of the gender concludes the body was not of Dunn, who has been missing for 15 months. She disappeared from Colorado City, about 40 miles east of Big Spring.
The remains were found a mile from the home of the mother of the person of interest in the case, the boyfriend of Dunn's mother.
CBS affiliate KOSA reports April Wehba is one of the many search team members who came to revamp the website they call "Hailey's Hope."
"New hope, new beginnings," Wehba said, "It took a second for us to process what we just heard. But it hit us like a ton of bricks and lifted this big weight off of my shoulders."
Search volunteer Holly Jenkins said, "I would be lying if I said I was not completely relieved that it was not Hailey." They say it is time to reconvene and begin their search once again.
Meanwhile, no one has been arrested in the former cheerleader's disappearance.
