For Arianna Huffington, sleep is the "biggest enhancement tool"
Arianna Huffington has been touting sleep as the "biggest enhancement tool" for years. The co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post shared with "CBS This Morning" on Monday that she gets eight hours of sleep 95 percent of the time.
"It makes a huge difference. I find it makes me much more productive, much more effective," Huffington said.
Sleep is one of the themes that drive her book "Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder," which is now being released in paperback. In her introduction, Huffington recounts her wake-up call when she collapsed from exhaustion in 2007, two years after The Huffington Post was founded.
She's now celebrating 10 years with the site, worrying less -- which she said "doesn't add anything" and "stop[s] us from sleeping" -- and sharing with others how they can thrive.
"As I was going around the world talking about 'Thrive,' the main question I was getting is, 'I agree with all that, but how do I make it happen? How do I implement all these changes? How do I change habits?'" Huffington said.
She launched a six-week course with Oprah to help people put these habits into practice. Every week, the course will introduce two new steps to "move from knowing what we want to do to actually doing it."
Not surprisingly, one of the firsts steps is deals with getting a better sleep? For Huffington, it's by making her bedroom a device-free zone.
"For me, the key is to take all my devices out of the bedroom and charge them in another room, because otherwise, you're going to be tempted if you wake up for whatever reason to check your texts and to check your emails, and then it's much harder to go back to sleep," Huffington said.
In her book, she said she even quoted "CBS This Morning" Charlie Rose, who is known to take two or three naps a day.
"You are a pioneer," Huffington said to Rose.
