Police: Alibi clears man charged in stabbing of Houston boy

HOUSTON - The Houston Police Department dropped a murder charge filed against a man accused in an "unprovoked" murder of an 11-year-old boy, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.

Police said a witness wrongly identified Che Lajuan Calhoun as the murderer, and others backed up Calhoun's alibi that he was in Pearland, Texas, on Tuesday at the time of the killing. Police said physical evidence collected later backed up this alibi.

Police are now searching again for the man who killed Josue Flores, a sixth-grader who was attacked and stabbed on his way home from school Tuesday night in north Houston. Flores had stayed late to participate in the school's science club.

Houston Sgt. Tommy Ruland said previously that the attack was random, and "unprovoked."

Calhoun remains in jail on $10,000 bond on unrelated charges for evading arrest and assault connected with a fight that occurred earlier this week.
