Homeland security contractor allegedly flashed badge, raped woman
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police in Spokane are investigating a Department of Homeland Security contract employee who is suspected of flashing a badge, then knocking a woman unconscious and raping her in her apartment last week.
Court documents say police have obtained a search warrant to investigate the allegations of first-degree rape, burglary and robbery against the Homeland Security contractor from Yakima.
The Spokesman-Review reports the case began last Wednesday when officers responded to a report of a "stranger-to-stranger" rape. The victim told officers that a man arrived at her apartment complex looking for a woman named Sharon, which is not her name.
The woman said she was moving belongings from a friend into her apartment and she had left her door open.
The man allegedly flashed a Homeland Security identification badge and shortly after punched her in the face. When the woman awoke, the woman said her pants had been removed and a credit card was missing, according to the paper.
The contractor was interviewed by police and told them that the woman invited him in to her apartment for a beer, but they didn't have sex and he eventually left.
The paper reports the suspect provides security for the Department of Homeland Security but is not an agent. It is not naming the contractor because he has reportedly not been charged with a crime.
He has not been arrested.
