Holiday flight delays: Five things to know to prevent a delay
(CBS News) The holiday travel season comes with travel complications and airline delays, but CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg claims that air travelers can take precautions to avoid flights that typically the most delayed.
Monday on "CBS This Morning," Greenberg shared his top five tips and insight on getting around the dreaded flight delay. To start, airlines are reporting a record low in the number of delayed flights this year, mainly due to new Department of Transportation tarmac delay rules.
Secondly, it is important to know which airlines have better flight delay records than others. Hawaiian air, Air Tran, and Alaska Air all have strong records, whereas American, United, and Express Jet have some of the worst on-time records.
Greenberg also recommends travelers be aware of airline routes that are chronically late, such as Virgin America between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and American Airlines between New York's JFK and San Diego.
Travelers should also book theier flights based on when they want to land and that morning arrivals are more dependable.
Lastly, Greenberg advises travelers to check their specific flight's on-time performance.
