Hillary Clinton's new book analyzing 2016 election goes on sale Tuesday
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's new book, "What Happened," debuted Tuesday, and Clinton appeared at a book signing in New York City on its first day out.
The long-anticipated book lays bare the former presidential candidate's reflections on her shocking loss in the 2016 presidential election that catapulted real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump to the White House. Clinton has had the last 10 months to think through how he is the commander-in-chief, while she isn't. Clinton has largely stayed out of the public eye, but her memoir has thrust her back into the political spotlight.
"I couldn't get the job done, and I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life," Clinton wrote in her book.
Clinton's book signing at Barnes and Noble in Union Square attracted long lines, with some devoted supporters waiting overnight for their signed copy. Clinton sent them pizza.
Fans waited for hours, against the backdrop of a wall lined with Clinton's novel, as Politico's Gabriel Debenedetti showed.
But the guest of honor apparently didn't show up on time, leaving supporters waiting in line long after 11 a.m., according to Guardian reporter Lois Beckett.
In the book, Clinton faults sexism, FBI Director James Comey, Russian influence and other influences for her historic defeat.
"The forces that were at work in 2016 were unlike anything that I've ever seen or read about. It was a perfect storm," Clinton told CBS' "Sunday Morning" anchor Jane Pauley in an exclusive interview.

Hillary Clinton on why she lost and "the most important" mistake
But she also owned up to some of her own shortcomings, particularly, her use of a private email server to conduct business while at the State Department. The Clinton email scandal plagued her campaign up until Election Day, and the FBI's investigation of it only intensified public scrutiny of the matter.
"Oh, I think the -- the most important of the mistakes I made was using personal email," Clinton told Pauley.
