Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump speeches to address Orlando shooting
Live on CBSN: Watch Hillary Clinton's speech at 12:30 p.m. ET and Donald Trump's speech at 2:30 p.m. ET
In the wake of the shooting in an Orlando nightclub that killed 50 people, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will address the tragedy on the campaign trail Monday.
Clinton is holding her previously scheduled campaign event in Cleveland, but will now focus her speech on counter-terrorism and national security. The event begins at 12:30 p.m. ET.
"Secretary Clinton will further address this act of terrorism and hate, and the steps she would take to keep Americans safe, in Cleveland on Monday and the days after that," a Clinton aide told CBS News.
Trump, too, will address Orlando and the national security issues it presents. The presumptive GOP nominee was scheduled to hold a rally in Portsmouth, N.H.; instead, he will give what's being billed as a "major speech" at St. Anselm College Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
He told "CBS This Morning" that he had changed his original plans to deliver a speech about the Clintons.
"I was going to talk about Hillary Clinton, which is very easy to do, 'cause I understand her -- I think it was inappropriate to do that right now," he said. "I had a massive rally [Monday night] in New Hampshire and I've cancelled that, but I'm going to New Hampshire, we're going to make a speech on the event yesterday and what we have to do to prevent that."
His campaign said in a statement that he would discuss "the serious threats facing all Americans and his solutions for making this country safe again."
