High school culinary arts instructor accused of indecency with child
ALVIN, Texas -- A Texas teacher was charged Monday with indecency with a child under the age of 14, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office received a report on Jan. 20 that 50-year-old David Eugene Romano had engaged in sexual contact with a child on more than one occasion, according to deputies. He was arrested 10 days later.
Officials have not said how Romano and the child are connected.
Romano is employed as a culinary arts teacher at Alvin High School. He is also a reserve unpaid police officer for Hilcrest Village Police Department and a scuba instructor, KHOU reports.
The Alvin Independent School District placed Romano on administrative leave Monday and he isn’t allowed to interact with students. They immediately contacted Child Protective Services and notified state education officials.
School officials said the incident did not involve a student that attends Alvin High School.
Romano is being held on a $100,000 bond.
