High-end international burglary ring busted in Florida, cops say

BAY HARBOR, Fla. - Police say a group of five men regularly traveled from Venezuela to Florida as part of an organized international burglary ring.

CBS Miami reports that the group, who allegedly targeted luxury condos, were arrested on August 21.

Officials said the suspects had been in and out of the U.S. during the last two years, allegedly for the sole "purpose of committing high-end burglaries."

Investigators said they confirmed the group -- Wilmer Jose Rojas Gamboa, Alberto Jose Colmenares Machado, Carlos Raul Depablos Mazzelli, Andres Rojas Solano and Eduardo Jose Martinez Piloto -- was back in town on Aug. 14.

They were apprehended in Miami, while allegedly preparing to commit another burglary. Police say they had completed one in Key Biscayne.

Officials said two of the suspects were arrested while attempting to leave the country and return to Venezuela.

The group is suspected in more than 30 burglaries. Police estimate property losses to be as much as $4 million.
