Haynesworth: $50K offered for witness testimony

WASHINGTON - A lawyer for Albert Haynesworth says a witness was offered $50,000 to testify against the NFL defensive lineman in a misdemeanor sexual abuse case.

Haynesworth is accused of sliding his credit card into a hotel waitress's bra and touching her breast last February. He is due to stand trial Aug. 23 in the District of Columbia.

His lawyer, A. Scott Bolden, says in new court papers that the witness was offered the money by a man the waitress introduced as her attorney.

The Washington Redskins traded Haynesworth last month to the New England Patriots after feuding with Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

Bolden said Tuesday the man is connected to the waitress but is not actually her lawyer. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office says prosecutors are working on a response.
